Guided House Tours
Let us take you on a journey through this characterful Highland home.
The interior of the house is predominantly 19th century in style but is neither a museum nor a time capsule as it is still a much loved family home. You will find Victorian bathing machines, Chinese marriage beds, antique doll’s houses and many collectibles and curiosities of the time giving an insight into the upper middle-class lifestyle of the Victorian landed gentry.
On your journey you will find out about Pool House's place in the local area and its transformation from humble beginnings to Victorian hunting lodge. You will get to know the role it played in WW2 and how it became a retreat for high profile and celebrity guests as a luxury hotel. Get to know the family and home through the stories and items on display in every room.
Children (and grown ups) will enjoy the period toys and games on display. They can also encounter some refugee wartime memorabilia, see a week’s worth of rations and take away some WW2 recipes to prepare at home. They can even try their hand at a quiz as they tour the house.
If your fascination lies with the paranormal, then you may hope to catch a glimpse of one or more of our three phantoms. Perhaps the sorrowful young lady who may place a hand on your shoulder, the butler making his way to polish the silver or the pianist who lost his life in the river but still plays the piano from time to time in the middle of the night.
We look forward to welcoming you and hope you enjoy your time with us.
